Description
Bodega Pirineos is located in the Somontano region, which means “below the mountains.” Those “mountains” are the Pyrenees. Somontano is a unique region in the higher reaches of Aragon and is home to over 200 winegrowers who are part of the Somontano de Sobrarbe Regional Cooperative. The vineyards of Bodega Pirineos are made up of a mosaic of small plots located in the heart of Somontano. These are the oldest vineyards in the Somontano D.O., where century-old vines of native grape varieties grow. These are now tended by the fourth generation of winegrowers. A significant portion of this area is planted with native varieties such as Macabeo, Moristel, and Parraleta. These grape varieties contribute to the typical character of the wines from this region. The remainder is devoted to the cultivation of national and European varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Chardonnay.
Composed of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moristel , each varietal is harvested at its optimal point of ripeness and processed separately in the winery. Before fermentation: cold maceration followed by fermentation at a temperature of 25ºC, peaking at 28ºC. Maceration continues for another 10 days. Maturation in new American oak barrels for 12 months. The robe of this wine is ruby red with purple hues and black highlights. The wine has aromas of red fruit, black cherry, and notes of peach, coffee, and vanilla. Due to the oak aging, it has a fine, creamy, and aromatic finish with light buttery notes.
