Description
Roca Roja is born from the rusty reddish slate that we find in the upper part of the “La Mallola” estate. It is laminated slate from the Carboniferous period (360-300M years old) called Llicorell limós. “La Mallola” is Marco Abella’s highest estate where maturation occurs gradually. It is a 100% Grenache wine that is very fine and elegant, complex and persistent in the mouth, with notes of red fruits, flowers and subtle mineral touches. It is the purest, freshest and most elegant expression of Grenache. The production of this wine is very limited. The small estate surprises us with its fragrance and delicate nature. For this reason, the grapes are fermented directly in French oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine is aged partly (80%) in new French oak barrels for 14 months and partly (20%) in amphoras for 4 months. The wine aged in amphoras finishes its aging earlier and the rest is waiting in damajuanas.
When it comes to tasting notes, the wine presents aromas of violet and jasmine, fresh fennel, sweet strawberries and cherries, complex minerality and spicy notes. In the mouth it is juicy, intense, very elegant, with soft and velvety tannins. Ideal pairings include tataki with tuna, roasted pigeon and rice , Duck breast, and grilled red meats.
