Description
La Mejorada’s latest release honors the principles of organic viticulture and winemaking that is slow and deliberate. Palomar de la Reina showcases a passion for quality, handcrafted wines from healthy vineyards, as well as the strong environmental values La Mejorada uphold. Based on the premise that patience is absolutely essential to the terroir, time is Palomar de la Reina’s most important winemaking tool, and it is what has led the winery to live within the landscape that surrounds it.
This new wine comes from a plot of Syrah vines planted at an altitude of 750 meters, in sandy, siliceous soil. The harvest took place under optimal temperature and humidity conditions and was carried out manually over three days, with three days between each harvest. Now, after a fascinating winemaking process, the moment has arrived to taste and enjoy it.
The malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels. The first racking occurred once this fermentation was complete, and a second racking 12 months later. The barrels were kept regularly topped up and stored in cool conditions to ensure good preservation during the 20 months.
This wine presents a bright, deep violet color. On the nose, it is refined and complex, with vibrant fresh black fruit (cassis, blackberry), violet blossom, notes of cocoa, spice (white pepper), balsamic, and an elegant smokiness. On the palate, it is very fresh, balanced, and fleshy, with good structure. The tannins are silky, and the finish is fresh, very fruity, balsamic, smoky, spicy, and very persistent. Ready to drink now but with great aging potential.
